Two men who fell down a 20-foot ravine were rescued safely Monday night.
On Tuesday evening, Michael Sofka, 23, of Ohio and Christopher Sigmund, 20, of Pennsylvania hiked up a steep ridge just outside of east Vail, cutting their own trail before reaching the top.

Sofka and Sigmund started a campfire and ate before they started hiking back down the mountain. On their return, the pair got lost and fell down the ravine, losing their flashlight in the process.

Sofka was able to call 911 shortly after 6 p.m. He told dispatchers his friend and he were stuck but not hurt and that they had water, granola bars and glow sticks.

Eagle County Sheriff's deputies and members of the Vail Mountain Rescue Group got to work trying to locate the men off of the GPS coordinates from Sofka's 911 call.

About four hours later Sofka and Sigmund were rescued without injury.
